Personal Research Project

This is an individual research project, aka - my PRP. During the course of the year i will be studying the subject of VOYOUISM. Looking into how it is used across the different mediums and how it effects our society in the way it is portrayed through the media, paying particular interest into the music video industory.

Client Project

For this i will be creating Compound. Along with my two team mates, James and Huw we will be establishing a media production company and tackling the challenges that it throws up along the way, you've guessed it, its called compound!

COMPOUND CATCH UP

WOW it has been a long time, i must have just been working so hard that ive have forgotten to write any of it down!!! well what has been happening in compound?? loads of things - mainly, making ourselfs into a real life business.

after having a review meeting it was reaslised that we could produce the media content to a professional level, but could we be operate as a business at a profesional level??? the answer was no! we had dvd's, editis, filming, graphics, 3d, but no documents to back it up or bring it together.

to solve this we went to the ntu business scholl to see phil clark, he was brillient and helped us to put togethet a documentation package for compound, including tips on how to write a brief, tender, invoice and sign off sheet.

we have also planned our final 3 projects, which aim to cover all of the areas that we have yet to cover, and some just for fun! firstly we have the audio project, second, e4 stings and finally making a set of video stings of the national alcohol awrness champaign, thirst for life, details to follow!!!

lets get back onto PRP

well, like i said, the focus has been on client project for the last few weeks, but now we have the calm after the storm and im starting again to think about PRP.

the next and final stage is the evaluation. i am having a meeting with Huw tomorrow so i will know abit more then but i had a chat with Jools a few days ago and we decided that my propype is not strong enough to send to people on its own for evaluation. this is due to it being a proptotype for my research project to you can t really send one without the other and the research part is way to big to send!

im light of this i am planning to run a focus group which includes a varirty of different people who may or may not have had a link to the resaech project already, this will be run by myself.

more details to follow!!..........

Moving COMPOUND forward

well, we had the presentation, after having a few little panic attacks during the rehersals on the day we pulled it off with perfection! the slides looked cool, all the content was covered, we had video, animation and sound, everything we could have needed! we even managed to give some good responses to Jools when he was asking us questions, which is always a bonus!

since then we have had a formative feed back meeting. this was supost to last for 20 mins, but knowing what me and huw are like there was no suprize that it ended up lasting for an hour!

The session was really helpfull but in my opion it highlighted quite a few problems that we had as a company, things that we should have realised about 6 months ago! i think that a mistake that we have made is branding compound as a company because on reflection it brings to many business factors into the equasion, which i personally would have liked to stay away from, but we have domne it noe so we will deal with it and probably come out the other side with benifits, its just going to mean putting a focus on written work rather then practical media work.

im going to look into creating a generic format for each peice of work and organise it that way, hopefull this is the easyest soilution and then we can move onto our newest challenge - creating an audio element!!!
